Shelly C. Durant joined the group in 1986 and has made mammoth strides as a dancer and choreographer. At 14 Shelly was given the role as tutor for the 11-16 junior dancers and performed in this capacity for 10 yrs during her tenure she led a contingent of 12 junior dancers to the Martinque Children's Festival in 1994.
Shelly has choreographed many pieces for PCW these include the Maypole and the Cricket dances. The former has brought her great recognition and has seen her choreographing a Maypole/Landship dance with 50 young people for the opening of Crop Over Festival 1999. She was also a judge for the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts(NIFCA) in 1998 and 1999.
During the last two years Shelly has been teaching dance at Parkinson Secondary School and she has also taught at the Girls Industrial School and several communities groups.
Shelly has toured extensively with PCW, gaining great experience by performing on the international arena. She has also performed on the hotel circuit and at local shows. She was chosen as part of a Barbados contingent to perform at a Guadeloupe Festival in 1997.
In 1996 she tried her skills in the theatrical arts and landed one of the leading roles in the drama production Snakes and Grasshoppers.
Currently Shelly tutors the Cultural Training Centre (CTC) beginners' class and she can be seen performing at 1627 And All That every Thursday night.
Shelly is currently the Manager of Pinelands Inc. the business arm of PCW.
